The BMG Labtech FLUOstar OPTIMA is a fluorometer designed for a variety of detection applications. As a multimode reader, the instrument is built with four reading modes: Fluorescence intensity (with FRET included), Time-Resolved Fluorescence (including DELFIA), High-Performance Luminescence for both flash and glow, and Absorbance for the UV/Vis range with path length correction. Measuring abilities for the instrument include top and bottom reading for increased detection accuracy. Capabilities also include endpoint and kinetic measurements as well as sequential multi excitation and emission measurements. The combination of all of these reading and measuring modes creates an instrument that can provide valuable detection capabilities to a wide range of scientific laboratories, from academia to pharmaceuticals. It can be applied to a variety of applications, including microbial growth, enzyme activity, cell viability, immunoassays, and DNA quantitation.
In conjunction with the multimode options of the FLUOstar OPTIMA is the assurance of accurate and reliable results. Fitted with a low noise photomultiplier tube, detection is carried out with advanced scanning methods. Unlike other readers that take one measurement in the center of each well, this instrument takes systematic reads in a grid-like fashion across the entire well. This ensures the detection of unevenly distributed cells or detection targets. Orbital averaging is also available, where the average read is taken over a predetermined orbital path for each well. Heating of microplates is possible with built-in heating plates that can reach as high as 60 C. Any microplate from 6 to 384 wells is compatible with the detection system of the instrument. For high volume performance, robotics such as microplate carriers can be integrated with the system.
