The BD Pathway 855 bioimager is a high content cell analyzer designed for superior performance and flexibility. This standalone system offers exceptional image quality, adjustable image capture, and live cell analysis, enabling it to meet the needs of a variety of applications. Analysis can be conducted in multiple modes, including kinetic imaging, fluorescence intensity measurements, and morphological analysis (including subcellular imaging). For enhanced versatility, high resolution cellular images can be obtained in both confocal and widefield format. Users can manually alternate between these two modes thanks to an innovative spinning disk optical system that minimizes background fluorescence while simultaneously optimizing the quality of the images. The platform also features a motion-free stage and moving optics so that image stability is guaranteed for both loosely adherent and live cells.
For rapid image acquisition, this bioimager is fitted with laser based autofocus capability that can provide results in less than five minutes for a 96- well microplate. If additional control is required, the system is capable of accessing camera based autofocus or combined autofocus modes. The 855 standalone model of the BD Pathway utilizes a dual mercury metal halide lamp as well as alignment free illumination. In this way, the instrument can provide even illumination and imaging over a spectrum of 340 nm to 750 nm. Operators can also choose between 16 excitation filters for maximum flexibility in application. Application flexibility is bolstered by the liquid handling and environmental control capabilities of the system, allowing it to perform a wide range of fluorescence based kinetic and endpoint biological assays. Direct viewing of cells in both fluorescence and transmitted light modes is practical thanks to the binocular eyepiece of the instrument.
Image tiling (montage) is fast and reliable with the highly precise linear motor function that provides x-y-z positioning without requiring software processing. With this feature, multiple adjacent image fields can be acquired for each sample, thereby increasing cell counts. For highly specific localization of cellular events, bright field images can be overlaid onto fluorescence images. Additionally, all filters (including independent excitation, emission, and dichroic) are subject to fully automated control. In this way, high resolution imaging of fluorescent samples is available for microplates as well as slides.
System software for the BD Pathway 855 is powerful and intuitive, making acquisition and analysis of cellular information simple and efficient. For convenience, predesigned applications can be established and stored in the system for quick access.
