About Congresswoman Jackie Speier:

In 2012, Newsweek named Congresswoman Speier as one of the 150 “fearless women” in the world.  During her more than 30 years of representative service she has passionately advocated for women through her work on pay equity, health care access, including reproductive equity and human trafficking. Most recently, Congresswoman Speier introduced the STOP Act, a bill that would significantly improve the military justice system that inadequately serves the more than 19,000 service members that are sexually assaulted each year. As a working mother of two, Jackie uniquely understands the challenges that women that work face in fields predominately dominated by men. To that end, in 1989 she founded what has become one of the largest networking organizations for women, Professional Businesswoman of California. In addition to her work on women’s issues, Congresswoman Speier continuously advocates for FDA reforms and NIH funding increases that support the life science companies and academic institutions that call her district home. She also serves as co-chair of the Biomedical Research Caucus in the House of Representatives. Jackie has lived her entire life inside California’s 12th Congressional District which she has represented in Congress since being elected in April, 2008. Previously she served the residents of the San Francisco Peninsula in both the California State Assembly and State Senate after beginning her career on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors.
