The biological safety cabinet (BSC) is a critical component of every lab where biological materials are handled.

BSCs are used to protect the operator and environment from aerosols generated by biological or pharmaceutical procedures, as well as to maintain the sterility of the product inside.

As part of our commitment to providing high-quality equipment and service, we recently held a weeklong biosafety cabinet training session for our maintenance and repair team.

The program was provided by the non-profit Eagleson Institute.  Founded in 1989 by Dennis Eagleson, CEO of The Baker Company in memory of his father and former company president, John M. Eagleson Jr., the Institute’s mission is to promote the principles and practices of laboratory safety.

Among the topics covered were factors influencing BSC performance, principals of airflow, decontamination methods, airflow data and documentation, and HEPA filter leak testing and patching.

This was definitely a hands-on experience for our team members, as you can see in the pictures in our photo gallery.

And don’t forget that BioSurplus carries a variety of biosafety cabinets from manufacturers such as Baker, NuAire, Thermo, DW Scientific and more.
