Every BioSurplus core team member has at least 18 years of skilled experience—including operations, scientific instrumentation, biotech, high-tech, and software architecture and development.
Bill VanDeWeghe, President and CEO
Bill VanDeWeghe, President and CEO: Bill joined BioSurplus in June 2016, bringing more than 30 years of management, financial and legal experience. He is dedicated to ensuring that customers benefit and grow their businesses through superb service and maximizing the value of their equipment.
Prior to joining BioSurplus, Bill co-founded and was CEO of a software startup, served as a Managing Director in an investment banking firm, was a shareholder in a law firm, and served as an artillery officer in the Army. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Princeton University, and his law degree at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary.
Octavio Espinosa, Vice President of Sales, Auctions, & Marketing Operations
Octavio leads the inside sales, operations and product marketing teams at BioSurplus. Prior to joining the company, he was a biotechnology industry scientist for nearly 25 years and held numerous senior-level positions in the areas of R&D, manufacturing, marketing and customer relations. As a former microbiologist with the Dow Chemical Company, he headed bioprocessing and scale-up operations, QC analytical capabilities and technology transfer collaborations.
Prior to Dow, Octavio contributed to the development of Mycogen Corporation, and was instrumental in equipment asset disposition upon its acquisition. Octavio received his marketing and undergraduate microbiology education and training at the University of California, San Diego. He is a member of American Society of Microbiology, Society of Industrial Microbiology and the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers.
Dawn Hocevar, Vice President of National Business Development
Dawn is instrumental in growing relationships with equipment manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies and other supply channel and auction partners throughout the country. She also serves as National President of Women in Bio, where she guides outreach and promotional efforts for the programs that the organization offers to its members.
Prior to joining BioSurplus in 2007, Dawn held various positions while employed at Fisher Scientific for 20 years, including senior sales representative and corporate account manager. Prior to Fisher Scientific, Dawn worked as a Licensed Medical Technologist at Stanford Medical Center. She received her bachelor of science degree in biology and minor in chemistry from San Jose State University.
